The backing plate is the “metal backbone” of a brake pad. While the friction material generates braking force through contact with the disc, the steel backing plate supports it, transferring immense pressure and impact to the caliper. It also ensures even load distribution, preventing cracking or detachment—forming the foundation of braking safety.
